Rob & Jess

Welcome to my site. If this is your first time visiting, please take your time to have a look around.

I’d like to introduce you to my latest bride & groom.  As a friend and a photographer, i was honoured to have the opportunity to capture their big day in all its glory.

As the official photographer, i was booked in.

As a guest, i was yet to receive my invitation. Then it arrived!!!

The invite read:

“After a one chance meeting and four years long distance relationship, Jessie Ruth Nuismer & Robert John Heap, together with their parents joyfully invite you to join them on Saturday 10th July as they begin their new life together in marriage”

I would like to give a special thanks to The Ravenswood. A brilliant venue, superb food and wonderful staff.

I hope you enjoy!

He will sleep on the cold ground in winter just to be by his master’s side.

medical assistant - Valuable info. Lucky me I found your site by accident, I bookmarked it.

Digital images // the importance of albums

I can’t tell you how many times i’ve been asked if i can:

“photoshop that tree out of the background for me?”

“give me a little nip tuck around the mid-section?”

“remove that person in the funny hat standing next to Mum?”

Photoshop and digital processing plays an important part in the final presentation of my images, BUT, and this is a huuuuuge but – just because you can do something in photoshop doesn’t mean you should.

Sure, I can remove that tree or even that guy in the sombrero – but for me, photoshop serves a bigger purpose.

I’d like to share a short story with you.

30 years ago my parents got married. It was a modest ceremony. Those in attendance included close friends & family plus the local photographer.

Following the big day, my folks were given 36 proofs and then asked to decide how many of each proof they would like to order. They could only afford one 10 x 8 photo. They hadn’t budgeted for the purchase of additional photographs.

Many years later, leading up to their 30th wedding anniversary I tried to contact the original photographer to see about ordering some photographs – this was based on the assumption that he was still in business and that he had kept hold of the original negatives. Unsurprisingly, the original photographer was nowhere to be found.

Here’s where i decided to dig out the original proof images from the loft and set about “restoring” aka removing the white, bold proof lines from them. Creating the wedding album my parents should have had from day one.

Used well, photoshop opens the door to a million and one possibilities.

The bride with her parents (my Mum & Grandparents)

The bride on her way to the ceremony
The classic bridal portrait outside the curch
Bride & groom portrait
Bride & groom portrait
The happy couple after the vows
The famous confetti shot (everyones gotta have one of these, right?)
Groom, bride & bestman
The cutting of the cake
Post vows – on the way to the reception (notice the superb 80′s moustache)
The entire collection of guests – friends & family

Natalie Gibbs - Amazing work. I’m sure your parents will treasure the album. I like that you didn’t over-process the photos once you got the proof lines out. This is also a great example of why couples should budget for a wedding album in addition to the files they might receive.
